Title: EUR/USD
Post by: rosentray on February 26, 2016, 09:07:38 AM
The EUR/USD is trading between the 200SMA and the support line. 1.10 remains a crucial level. Below it we might see an attempt for 1.09, above it we should get a close above the 200SMA for a new trend to begin.

Because of comfortable trading spreads I like most EUR/USD from all other major pairs. But I am not willing do depend on completely just one currency.  For that reason in my demo account I usually trade all major currency pair to see the performance how it works. This approach always helps me for increasing my trading performance very rapidly.

Right now I am demo trading EUR/USD.
I personally think as a beginner trader it is smart to trade only one pair, until you have a feel for the market.

Well, I see you are using SMA for dynamic support and resistant levels, by the way I use technical and fundamental both kind of market analysis for filtering my entry points! In order to my personal observation, now there is no good entry points, since now we are in a daily range, I am waiting for breaking upper and lower level of this range!

EUR/USD has reached a strong resistance on the weekly and monthly time frame. I think it is very possible for us to see a deeper correction - up until the pair reaches 1.1400 or even 1.1250. Such a correction, obviously, won't develop over the course of a couple of days, it could last for weeks.

It occurred to me that the NFP will be this week again. Whatever EUR/USD does for the rest of the week, prior experience dictates that the true movements will probably happen on Friday.

Unless you have HFT facilities to compete using speed advantage during news release your best option is to decipher sentiments that move USD before the NFP and jump before even realize emerged trading opportunity. My guess that dollar will appreciate slightly from current levels to extend fall on weak labor figures as NFP is likely to follow weak inflation and other data.

Big drop after the NFP data was announced. The pair may reach 1.1700 next. I shorted after the news and I didn't close my position over the weekend.
Title: Re: EUR/USD

Predictably EUR/USD is retracing after the big drop on Friday, but the pair will likely continue dropping once that correction ends, at least until it tests the support at 1.1700 once more time.
Title: Re: EUR/USD
Post by: Eliza Abrams on August 11, 2017, 12:53:06 PM

The pair is so undecided for the moment that unless the fundamentals give it a necessary push it may not exit the range before the market closes later today.
Title: Re: EUR/USD
Post by: Eliza Abrams on August 12, 2017, 12:00:07 PM
The fundamentals did give the pair the required push and it started rallying. Not to mention that it had formed a pair of inverted hammer bars on the daily time-frame above 1.1700. All that said, the renewal of the bullish trend won't be confirmed before the pair breaks out the previous high at 1.1910.

The correction to the downside may be over, considering the hammer bars the pair has formed on the H4 time-frame at the support at 1.1660. I expect a new move to the upside.
Title: Re: EUR/USD
Post by: Eliza Abrams on August 23, 2017, 01:46:49 PM
The move to the upside did occur, but the pair remains stuck in a in a tight range. However, there are also three candlesticks on the weekly time-frame - a shooting star and a pair of hanging man candlesticks - that could indicate a reversal.

A quick reminder that Janet Yellen will have a speech tomorrow at Jackson Hole at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Economic Symposium and it will likely affect all USD-related pairings, including EUR/USD, which will probably continue its consolidation until then.

The US Non-Farm payrolls were announced earlier today but all they caused was a whipsaw and the tight sideways consolidation continues. It is unlikely it will end before the market closes this week. That said, once it does end there will probably be a new move to the downside.

Whatever the fundamentals, the technical analysis hasn't changed - there is still a shooting star candlestick at 1.2070 on the daily time-frame and that signal for a move to the downside is still valid.
Title: Re: EUR/USD
Post by: Eliza Abrams on September 05, 2017, 02:10:40 PM
Although EUR/USD continues consolidating sideways the pair has also formed an impressive shooting star bar on the weekly time-frame at 1.2070, so a new move to the downside toward 1.1800 is quite possible.

I thought so too, but the bullish movement continues, after all, despite the retracement yesterday. EUR/USD formed a new high at 1.2090 and it may soon break out above the next major resistance at 1.2100.

Retracement would be a welcome event in EURUSD currently, but I think 90 level on EURUSD will do the trick and if Yellen avoids being extremely dovish on Fed decision we may see trend reversal or some decent retracement. I wait till it drops a little bit more.
Title: Re: EUR/USD
Post by: Eliza Abrams on September 11, 2017, 03:05:38 PM
It appears that there will be at least a temporary retracement as EUR/USD formed another shooting star bar on the D1 time frame at 1.2092. That said, the overall bullish trend is not over yet and the rally will probably continue afterwards.
Title: Re: EUR/USD
Post by: Eliza Abrams on September 15, 2017, 02:59:59 PM
The EUR/USD retracement is either over or the pair has begun to form a sideways consolidation above the support at 1.1835 because the pair formed a hammer bar above that level on the D1 time frame and bounced off from it. Which one of these scenarios is more valid depends on whether there will be a breakout above the last high at 1.2092 or the pair will bounce off from it again.

EUR/USD dropped significantly after FOMC announced yesterday that they won't hike the interest rate. However, despite the drop, the pair remains withing the sideways consolidation above 1.1859. I think next target will be 1.2030 again.
Title: Re: EUR/USD
Post by: Eliza Abrams on September 23, 2017, 02:23:30 PM
EUR/USD has been consolidating sideways for well over three weeks now and not even the FOMC news could end the consolidation. That said, the pair has formed a hanging man bar on the weekly time-frame at 1.2030, a correction to the downside is possible.
Title: Re: EUR/USD

I've seen such lukewarm reactions to the NFP from time to time - and by time to time I mean a few times a year. It's always so disappointing and anti-climactic. Everyone waits for the news to come out all week, the market barely moves, and then it just fizzles like wet fireworks.

EUR/USD found some support at 1.1665 and rebounded from that level. What is more, the pair has formed a clear hammer candlestick on the daily time-frame, also at the same level, so there will likely be a new move to the upside.

EUR/USD rebounded from 1.1665 and continued rallying. It's testing 1.1870 and I think if it breaks out above that level it will reach 1.1980.

The zone around 1.1860 - 1.1870 is proving to be a very strong resistance zone, the pair bounced from it yet again and it looks like it will begina sideways consolidation between that zone and 1.1730.

Let’s not forget about the inverse head and shoulders model. It’s working out for now, but it won’t complete its formation if the daily candlestick closes above 1.1660. Ideally, the price will rebound from the LB balance line and close around 1.1630.

Draghi's speech today was fairly hawkish in my estimation. Gave it a read over and he speaks rather persistently to the present strength of the Euro Banking sector and it's capacity for dealing with bad loans and keeping housing bubbles at bay.

Link for anyone who might be interested. Could give up a bit of a pop up on the EUR/USD tomorrow.

The fundamentals pushed EUR/USD hard to the upside. The way it's rallying it could reach 1.1900 or even climb above it soon. The long-term target is probably the last high at 1.2092.

There was a pullback from 1.1860 which is normal after such a sharp rally, but now the question is whether that rally will continue because the pullback also formed a shooting star candlestick on the daily time frame. A breakout above 1.1860 will confirm the further bullish movement.

Yesterday's Euro rising breaks above diagonal resistance connecting the high from September 08 and September 20 giving some sign for possible further uptrend movement. We had nice pullback today and looks like new Euro rising would be just a matter of time with very first targets 1.1845/55

Technical or Fundamental?

Several years from now technical trading educators will no doubt use today's price action on the Daily EURUSD as a classic example of how once a trend line is broken, a re-test of that trend line will follow prior to price continuing the break.

See orange rectangle area in chart below.

But those trading on this day will know that the sharp drop back to the trendline was in response the news that Merkel had failed to form a new coalition government.
And the subsequent move back up was in response to better than expected German PPI data released several hours later.

So are technical setups just coincidental to moves made in response to fundamentals? And that is why they only work sometimes?

(Of course I should wait till the NY close before writing this, but hey, I want to go to sleep now. :-) )

Interesting perspective, I think that the trade has very unpredictable moments, but the example you pose has to see the feelings of the investor, the psychology of trading is very important to take successful traders. Another aspect is the economic calendar https://alpari.com/en/analytics/calendar_fxstreet/ which we must stick to not to fall for market sentiment, I have always learned not to be in the market in 5 minutes before a shocking news is made known, because the movement can close your operation, for better or for worse

ECB President had a pair of speeches yesterday, it could've been a result of those. That said, the shooting star candlestick on the daily time-frame did point out to a future drop, it could've been just the result of that.

Yeah, it's really interesting move.
The US dollar strengthened against the euro then turned around and closed trades in the red against all major currencies. And the euro closed with a rise in growth after in updated the monthly minimum against the US dollar.

It depends on the results of elections and the US/Chineese trading war. I think it's more possible that euro will return to higher possitions since T.May is probably going to resign.

I'm looking to short the pair after the pullback from 1.10 and I think the time has come the the pair continues to consolidate near the lower band of 1.10-1.11 range.

Friday movement, sometimes not expected, although currently bears pressure already weaken, and one candle figure out bulls candle already appear, still need to wait on last session market, if it breaks low, continuation may occur, but if close at lowest high, reversal sign

Eurusd moves back to bearish, i think the price still work on previous range candlestick, where the lower price could be support zone on time,  where 1.1099 is support zone based on price action demand and supply

Breaking out steady last days. So exciting!

Current stock market sell-off which basically affected both EM and developed markets makes it very difficult to assess medium-term currency outlook because capital flows become less and less predictable. I'm betting on further dollar weakness with Hotforex since markets expect Fed to cut rates already in March!

Different with eurjpy, this pair eurusd on the flat market, today although occurrence a gap but only can see through low timeframe m15, this is consolidation stage, and the possible price will reverse to bullish, but needs to waiting price break high

Seems euro get pressure from USD, the price still moves on support zone and possible to break low, Germany punishment to ECB seems to make the euro currency in the problem. But in different pairs eurjpy its strong bullish.

It's back at 1.0790 but it has not broken out below that level. That's the support of the sideways consolidation, let's see whether it will bounce off from it again.
Title: Re: EUR/USD

It rallied back to 1.0850 and pulled back from that level. As I thought, the sideways consolidation won't end this week.

When do you expect it to break through current range. I see more attempts to go upside rather than test new lows. It suggests buying dips can be very profitable opportunity.

I don't think anyone can tell you when a range could end. When there's a breakout it will end. In the absence of any signals I'd also wait for any big fundamental events.
Title: Re: EUR/USD

A breakout finally occurred and it was to the upside! The pair broke out above 1.0900 and rallied to 1.0975. Currently it has formed a spinning top on the four-hour at that level so we may see some correction.
Title: Re: EUR/USD

EURUSD reach on the peak right now, in this area could in consolidation phase, although possible to break high, but I think it will then reversion,  Friday market sometimes wild movement, usually random, it's possible to bearish again.

I read somewhere that the major US banks are flush with cash; so much cash that they don't know what to do with it; because of all the stimulation packages and money printing.

So stands to reason that the USD will weaken and EURUSD will therefore rise unless the Europeans do something different.?

During QE, asset swap happens, bank accumulate cash instead of Treasuries not on top of it. It's a common misconcept, but not the Fed nor Treasury hand out money to people. In case of the Fed it's all about asset swap (swapping illiquid debt from the public to liquid money) in case of Treasury it's drawing consumption from future, because future generations will have to pay for the debt (so called Ricardian Equivalence).

Bearish eventually, now price at 1.17308, H1 figure out the bearish pattern, but price already on the lower band now, I think the price will bounce to arise today

I think EURUSD will temporarily fluctuate in 1.17-1.19 band because bullish arguments for USD are still shaping up while selling it more after protracted sell-off looks really risky. A balanced solution is to trade the range or adopt wait and see stance.

If Johnson drops his threat and negotiations are allowed to continue for longer than a week, perhaps Brexit will become secondary on the international sceen and a greater focus on the US elections will have the EUR surge for now. This weekend will be the determinant factor.

EURUSD should feel some downside pressure as stocks are matured for correction and usd is inversely correlated with stocks, especially during sharp moves (wave of risk-on and risk-off).

Price drop drastically land to 1.17995 on the chart my broker, but at present, the price back to rebound to 1.18381
It's possible the price move on the range previous daily.

It's less than a 40 pips drop within a sideways consolidation, I don't think it's that drastic. These movements are normal during range.

The move north continues for now, it will likely reach 1.2000, but let's see whether it will break out above that level.

It bounced off from 1.1940. It is disappointing but entirely unsurprising, unfortunately.
