Download History
« on: November 11, 2009, 02:35:29 AM »
No matter which broker and no matter which currency pair I try to download I get the error msg "There are no new data for symbol "XXXXXX"".
I try to run the back-test and it does not have any data.
I use  Tools..... History and select the currency pair then Download. Then I get the error.

been having that problem on my gallantfx demo acct for a bit now.  Trying to download EURGBP m15 and it says same thing for a few days now.  Only has history back to early
Nov.

Alpari uk acct can do it and that is the one I have been backtesting with.

here's a tip for you(and others with the same problem):

use a live account for downloading the data.

This in my experience often works better than demo generally.

Or use the backtester in ODL demo. Normally there's no problem with their data from history center. An added advantage about odl is that they use straight GMT, so no offset there.

Good luck!

I believe that the Download History will only work on brokers with "standard" 6 character symbols, ie. EURUSD.  So yes, will work fine on Alapri UK...won't work on JadeFX (EURUSDjfx), Collective FX (EURUSD_fx), etc.  Is Gallant EURUSDgfx?  If so, I believe this is why it will not work.

With more and more of these suffixes showing up, one may ask...how long until it IS supported?  But, unfortunately, this is MetaQuotes, and they can be a little...um, "funny" with stuff like this.

These funny affix indicate a special price feed. Take Gallant FX as example, the EURUSD is their original price feed and the EURUSDgfx is their special price feed (they claim it has lower spread).

I guess its similar for other brokers.

yes this is true for some brokers i think, but forex.com for example has no different feeds. somehow i suspect a more sinister reason, like disabling trade copiers.

Anyway, I hate brokers keep doing funny things. Best to have those brokers with standard settings all the way. Fewer surprise, fewer headache.

I think they are just a sort of "unique identifier" as they are always on ECN/STP style brokers which must pass through a "bridge" by Boston Technologies in order to work in this fashion.  Kind of like a bank's Sort Code or Transit Number.

I don't know...you either trust your broker or you don't.  If you don't...well...
