Balanced FX Portfolios - Forex Copy Trading Accounts
« on: May 24, 2019, 06:04:46 PM »
Dear forum members,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I have dipped in and out of the Donna Forex Forum over the past couple of years but up until now have not been a regular contributor. That will now change and I hope to get to know some of you through discussion on here.

I have been trading live accounts for around 3 years. Like most of us, I had a rocky start to my trading career whilst embracing the steep learning curve. However, it seems that I have finally found myself in a position whereby I am profitable month after month. I count myself lucky to have found strategies that are working for me. With that said, I have put in up to 10 hours a day study over the past 3 years... so it's not all down to luck!

I'm currently making on average 5 - 10% per month, using a combination of my own manual trading strategy, that I developed over the past 12 months and two stable and trusted expert advisors, with my own custom set files for low/medium risk.

The manual strategy is at the core of what I do and accounts for around 60% - 70% of my profits. The EA's are two that I have found to offer stable and long-term performance and these act as satellite strategies, which seems to create a well-diversified and balanced approach.

The reason for this post, is to introduce other forum members to the trading strategies that I have found work well for me. I have setup a new signal copy service to share my trades via SignalStart and on MQL5.

I don't want to get ahead of myself but I am confident in my abilities to generate long-term and sustainable profits, and so I am looking for subscribers to my new signal at this startup stage.

I'll be on-hand in the forums here to answer any questions and share discussion and will be accountable for all actions. I feel it will be one of the best ways to learn how to provide a top quality service, by getting feedback from other traders.

Rest assured, I take this all very seriously. I have no interest in get-rich-quick schemes and trade copy services that are here today, gone tomorrow. I'm in this for the long-term and I would like to invite you to join me on my journey (and of course in the profits).

You can check out my new website here: http://www.balancedfxportfolios.com.

To be clear, the verified myFXbook results published on the website are specifically for this copy account, that I setup at the beginning of 2019. This is not my main personal account that I have honed my skills on over the past few years. However, I am happy to share my personal myFXbook results here in the forum, to show you that I am the real deal. These go back to 2017 and I have no shame in acknowledging my initial losses!  ::)

With regard to Balanced FX Portfolio signal, I expect monthly gains to settle down somewhere around 5 to 7% per month as we continue throughout the year. I'll be making any required adjustments as we go on and I personally monitor the EA's on a daily basis to ensure they're not going to get us into any trouble. I also have a good track record of recovering from drawdowns when they do inevitably happen from time to time.

Let me know what you think guys, I'd like to be able to offer this service for the long term, so please do sign up and give me your feedback.

Thanks for reading and please check out https://www.balancedfxportfolios.com for more info.

If you have any questions please do send me a private message or drop me an email:

info@balancedfxportfolios.com

Thanks for your time,

- Dan

Welcome Dan - so the odd large lot size differences in your results are your manual trades vs system yes? I note some trades have ~300 pip SL and there are some quite large dips in equity or open drawdown (>10%) which.so far, have reversed into profitable trades. At what stage do you close these out if there is no reversal - ie the ultimate risk per trade? Presumably it is not 300 pips per trade leg? On the 21st March you closed out 6*EURUSD positions with lot sizes varying from 0.01 to final sixth trade leg position at 0.16 lots, which makes this quite an aggressive marti would you agree? Conditions for marti's/mean reversion systems whatever you wnat to call them have been perfect for the last 6 months BUT we all know it won't continue....

Hi petersurrey,

Thank you for your questions.

Firstly, with regard to the larger lot sizes, these would be my manual trades when I first setup this account. To be completely honest and transparent, I hadn't planned to used this as my copy account initially and so my risk tolerance was slightly higher than it would be now that I'm responsible for client funds. Going forward, my manual trade position sizing will be in line with the automated systems, I have no intention of risking anyone's hard earned money. Also, I have a reputation to build and need to gain people's trust.

With regard to stop loss orders. I do not use them at all in my manual trading, from my experience they do more harm than good and they do not fit my trading style. It was only when I stopped using stop losses that I started to become consistently profitable.

I manage any losing positions with my own developed grid system. It's not Martingale, so risk is kept to a minimum, and so far over the past 8 months (on my personal, main account) I have demonstrated the ability to get out of all losing trades in profit, or breakeven at the very least. I can't even imagine using stop loss orders, I would never sleep at night through fear of being stopped out of a trade or basket of trades that I could have managed and closed with profit.

Some of the more wild stop losses you see on EURUSD for example, are set by the EA I use and based on a maximum drawdown of 30%. It's this EA that uses the most aggressive Martingale strategy. However, I monitor the EA's daily and would never let them get to a point where we'd be in any trouble. I can disable them if necessary and manage trades manually. Not that this has been necessary yet.

Agree with you that conditions have been perfect lately, if markets start trending a bit more then I will adapt my strategies. Nothing is set in stone, it can't be with Forex trading. The whole point of this 'Balanced Portfolio' is that I manage it as a fund and make any necessary tweaks to ensure it continues to perform well. It's not set & forget.

I do take a different stance when it comes to Martingale strategies, it seems a lot just people repeat what others say about them being very dangerous and blowing up accounts over time. There are many examples of Martingale strategies performing well over long periods.

I would invite you to check out the Shikari signal, for example; a 100% automated Martingale strategy that has given consistent performance for 5 years and continues to do so to this day. This system has been through quite a few major events in the markets without too much trouble.

https://www.signalstart.com/analysis/shikari/1733

The bottom line is, I closely monitor the Marti strategies to ensure they don't break the account.

The second EA I use for the Asian session trading has custom set files for each pair, in terms of multiplier used and various other functions for exiting the trades. I'm keeping a close eye on its performance as it's a relatively new part of the portfolio. It accounts for a fairly small percentage of this signal and won't open positions if a particular currency is already being traded. Result so far are encouraging and I'm sticking with just 8 currency pairs at the moment - the ones that have proven to be more predictable, dare I say?!

I hope that over the next few months you will get the opportunity to see that I'm managing this signal well. I'm not perfect, none of us are, but I do feel  I have an edge with my manual trading and the EA's seem to compliment this. Sure, there will be changes made if necessary and I am always open to constructive criticism. That's what these forums are for.

I hope I may count you as a subscriber at some point, if not right now. And if you have any questions, I will always do my best to respond within 24 hours, though you will appreciate I am not online all of the time!

Thanks again for your interest and best of luck with your trades.

Regards,

Dan.

For other members reading this thread. Please note, I am not taking the offering of this signal lightly. I take it all very seriously and I have no intention of putting subscribers money at any risk. It is my first signal offering and I hope one of many to come. The idea is to get this one established and then look at building additional signals to suit a variety of risk tolerances.

I know it's a long journey to build trust and I'm new to this forum. However, I'm confident that in time you'll see I'm in it for the long-term and I want people to find value in the services I provide.

I wanted to get myself known in the forum so that I am accountable for my actions and people can put a face to the name. I'll answer any questions honestly and have nothing to hide. I'm also not ashamed to admit that every day is learning day and I'll most likely make some mistakes.

Just to summarise, I've been trading just over 3 years, profitable every month for 8 or so months and I feel now is the time to push myself and start offering my services to others. Some would say it's too soon, but I've always been one to take action in my business endeavours and I'm not afraid of putting myself out there and getting s**t done.

That's enough rambling for now, I hope admin will give me a proper introduction soon and I really do hope some of you will support me and sign up to copy my trades, which you can do on either of the links below.

SignalsStart: https://www.signalstart.com/analysis/balanced-fx-portfolio/56995

MQL5: https://www.mql5.com/en/signals/586041

I'm not sure where else is best to set up as a signal provider, so perhaps somebody could chime in and let me know.

Thanks a lot,

Dan.

Question to all forum members: What is your preferred trade copy platform?

I have now setup on SignalStart, MQL5 & Zulutrade. However, if anyone can suggest other platforms I am open to suggestions.

I am aware of Simple Trader, so I'll look into that shortly.

Many thanks,

Dan.

Just to update you all,

I am currently in the process of setting up Balanced FX Portfolio medium risk signal on Simple Trader, in addition to making it available via SignalStart and MQL5.

I just need to do a few verification checks and the Simple Trader account should go live by the end of this week.

It would be great to count some of you as new subscribers and I will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding this signal.

Honest answers guaranteed!   :)

Hi alaali,

Thank you for your subscription, I appreciate the support.

Please be aware that for some reason I am currently banned from MQL5 until 3 June, apparently due to spam! Even though I only posted 2 - 3 times within a 24 hour period on my profile. I think it was because of external links to my website. It seems they are quite sensitive on people promoting their signals outside of MQL5.

I will be able to log back in and use the platform on Monday, thankfully.

Thanks again for subscribing, I hope you will be satisfied with the results and continue with your subscription.

All the best,

Dan.
