Again, a dumb question about closing trades
« on: June 07, 2009, 10:19:19 PM »
I notice, on several posts, that the individual closed a trade before it went into a loss. Questions
1. How does one determine what trades are open?
2. How does one the determine if any of those trades are profit or loss and how much?
3. If the trade should be closed, how does one accomplish this?

in the MT4 screen, there is usually a terminal wondow at the bottom, if not, click View -> terminal and it will appear. Here you should see the list of trades running and the profit/loss details.

to close a trade manually, right-click the trade and chose "close" and then confirm the action.

I presume that an open trade is one that the profit/loss  is blank. Anything else I should know?
Presently all of my trades show a value in the profit/loss column. So when I right click a "Close" option is not available. Is this option only available on open trades?

The "Trades" tab will show any open trades you have ongoing.  The "Account History" tab will show trades that have already taken place.  So, to answer your question, the "Trades" tab is where you will want to close a trade since this is where all ongoing trades will be listed.

One final question.  I hope!

I use a "line chart" fo each of my currency pairs. The trade open line appears whenever a trade is open. It would be nice if a SL and a TP line also appeared whenever a trade opened. Can this be done with different colors and, if possible, with the trade number like the open trade line?

The SL and TP will be displayed on the chart after they are entered.  You will need to enter these values after the trade is open.  As for changing the colors, I'm not sure.  I think you can change the color of the SL lines, but I've never tried.
